During our running assessment, the physiotherapist will conduct a thorough examination that includes a detailed medical history, an assessment of previous injuries, a running-specific biomechanical assessment, and a slow motion gait analysis of your running. The individual will be asked to perform a variety of functional movements and running drills to assess their joint mobility, muscular strength, balance, and coordination.
Slow motion analysis
The physiotherapist will observe the individual’s running technique, paying close attention to factors such as posture, foot strike pattern, stride length, cadence, and arm swing. They may use video analysis tools to capture and analyse the individual’s running gait in greater detail, allowing for a more accurate assessment.
Based on the findings, the physiotherapist will provide personalised recommendations and interventions to address any identified issues. This may include exercises and stretches to improve flexibility and strength, modifications to running technique, footwear recommendations, and advice on training volume and intensity.
Stay injury free
We will look to identify potential injury risk factors, such as muscle imbalances or abnormal movement patterns, and will develop a customised injury prevention program to keep your running injury free. This could involve specific exercises and training strategies aimed at reducing the risk of common running injuries, such as shin splints, IT band syndrome, achilles tendinopathy, patellofemoral pain, or plantar fasciitis.
Overall, a physio-led running assessment provides valuable insights into an individual’s running mechanics and helps optimise performance while reducing the risk of injuries. By working closely with a physiotherapist, runners can gain a better understanding of their bodies and develop strategies to improve their running technique, efficiency, and long-term running health.
